Berlin Trip

The time had come for the second ILS trip of the year. After the great success of the trip at the beginning of the year to Groningen, it was time to go bigger and better. Our next destination was the vibrant city of Berlin, a place steeped in history and brimming with life.

Deutsche Bahn

The first day was travel day. We gathered early in the morning and walked together to the platform to catch our train. Our seats were reserved, so we were all set for a smooth journey. But it wouldn’t be Deutsche Bahn without a delay. After a few minutes of panic, we were redirected to another train. From there, our journey continued safely. Upon arrival, people dropped off their belongings and went out for dinner. Some dared to try the kebab place next to our hostel, which was supposedly the best in town. A small group set out to explore Berlin’s nightlife, while others chose a good night’s sleep after the long trip.

Discovering the city

This day was dedicated to exploring the city. We started with a city tour provided by the lovely travel committee. We got to see the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, and the Fernsehturm (TV tower). After all that sightseeing, we went inside the Reichstag to learn about its rich history and many hidden gems. After the guided tour, led by a lovely tour guide, we had some free time. Some went shopping, while others returned to the hostel to rest and get ready for the night ahead.

Europa experience

It was quite an early morning again, as breakfast was served from 9:00 to 9:30. Once we were fuelled with food, it was time to head to the Europa Experience. There, we learned all about the European Parliament, the influence of Europe, and the importance of the alliance. During a quiz, people could test their knowledge, and some were even lucky enough to place in the top three and win a prize!

After the activity, we went out for lunch before returning for part two of the city tour. The tour ended at the Jewish Museum, where the history, customs, and culture of the Jewish people were beautifully displayed and explained. From history books to rooms filled with Jewish music, there was plenty to see and do.

After that, everyone was free to fill in their evening as they wished.

Last day

The last day was upon us. It was a slow morning, as some of us had enjoyed the final evening of Berlin’s nightlife. We met up at the Tiergarten, a beautiful park located in the heart of the city. People enjoyed their last döner kebab and did some shopping for snacks for the journey home.

At last, it was time to head back. The trip went smoothly, and after sitting for hours, we were rewarded with the beautiful sight of Amsterdam Central Station.
